Torreira injury makes Arsenal fans devastated.

Uruguay have issued an injury update on Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira.

The 23-year-old started his country's game against Costa Rica, but was taken off just before half time, with reports suggesting that the player himself requested to be substituted after picking up an injury.

Uruguay took on the United States in a second friendly in the early hours of Wednesday morning, but Torreira was not named among the squad for the encounter.

On the announcement of the team, the nation moved to explain the midfielder's absence, and it is not great news for Arsenal ahead of the return of the Premier League this weekend.

The impact Europa League final defeat to Chelsea had on Arsenal as new UEFA ranking is revealed

"Due to muscular discomfort, Lucas Torreira and Darwin Nunez are not available," they Tweeted on their official account.

The good news for Arsenal is that Torreira didn't immediately return to the club in order to get treatment. A tweet from the player himself showed him spending time with his international teammates ahead of the game against the USA.

The player will now travel back to Arsenal as preparations for the trip to Vicarage Road get underway. Torreira has played a part in three of the four Premier League games so far this season, including starting the north London derby against Tottenham in the match before the international break.
Unai Emery will be hoping that the midfielder makes a full recovery ahead of the weekend's game against Watford.
